USHA SCHOOL INITIATIVE


VARHAD initiated a sewing training school in partnership with Usha International Limited. This school offered a free sewing course for a duration of six months.This course skilled the women who enrolled themselvesto learn sewing 15-20 types of garments by the completion of the course. VARHAD identified the needy ones who cannot afford a sewing machine after their training and sponsored them the sewing machines and strengthened them to be socio-economically sound.


SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES & LIVELIHOOD OPPORTUNITY

VARHAD intervenes towards empowering the women belonging to marginalized backgroundby conducting various types of skill development and vocational trainings programmes such as making of wax and making of incense sticks. VARHAD collaborates with the small-scale industries and links them to find better and appropriate employment opportunity and encourages them to form Self Help Groups and get involved in economic activities and VARHAD also provides monetary assistance to the poor and needy women to start small businesses.

ADULT LITERACY PROGRAMME FOR WOMEN PRISONERS

VARHAD has been operating the Adult Literacy Programmes (ALP) for the imprisoned women by providing them with the formal education within the prison wall. After the influential intervention of VARHAD with the Education Department, Government of Maharashtra the 4th standard board examinations were conducted in the prison premises. Every year, around 15-20 women prisoners get succeeded this exam owing to VARHAD’s initiative. VARHAD aims to assist these women to gain knowledge and much-needed confidence to assimilates themselves in the mainstream world after they release from the prison.


VOCATIONAL TRAINING FOR WOMEN PRISONERS

VARHAD imparts various types of vocational training to the women prisoners irrespective of caste, class, creed and age so that they become self-dependent and can sustain all by themselves after they get released from the prison. The vocational training given to them are sewing, wax making and incense sticks making.The VARHAD employees encourage them to save their earned money to utilize for a notable cause


POST RELEASED JOB EMPLOYMENT SUPPORT

VARHAD collaborates with the small-scale industries to seek for the employment opportunities for the released women prisoners. These small-scale industries organize the vocational trainings for them and many released women prisoners have been benefitted considerably out of it. VARHAD has always paid attention to the women prisoners also has encouraged the released women prisoners to form self-help groups to improve their socio-economic condition and quality of life.
